Subject: Chennai Day 11 (Day off)

So the original plan was to work straight  almost the entire trip and just

to take breaks as we could afford them with respect to the amount of work
that we have to do.  So far we had the chance to take a day off on Pongal
(the 15th) because it was a holiday, and we have decided to take today
(Sunday) off as well.

I have no specific plans for what to do for the day, but so far I figure

I'll take it easy, maybe go shopping.

So yesterday we finished the last of the sites here in Chennai that we

need to Audit.  I took some pictures of the site (they are being uploaded
as I write this).  Yesterday for lunch the folks at the site took us to
eat at a restaurant at the coast (owned by the same hotel group as we are
staying at here in town, the Taj group of hotels).  The resort was nice,
very much done in the Gilligans island style of huts and little tables
with umbrellas covered with palm thach.  I didn't manage to bring my
camera, but the Bay opf Bangal was much as I remember it.  There is a
stripe of greenish brown water that extends from the shore about half a
mile out, past that the color of the water is a bright almost sky blue
that looks much cleener than the closer water.  There were plenty of signs
in many languages that warned of going in to the water.  At the resort I
saw a number of boganvilla(sp?) plants.  There have been a number here in
India.  I always thought that it came from Spain?  It seems to grow very
well here, one of the plants had a trunk like a tree, at least a couple of
feet around, and it was taller than the building.

I also saw my first wildlife (excepting crows, insects, dogs, cows and

seagulls).
There was a little chipmunk that was running around looking for a bite to
eat.

I have also posted some pictures taken from the top of one of the

buildings that we visited on Thursday.  From those pictures you can see
the ocean, the railway, some of the city buildings, the stadium (the one
with the lights that look like flyswatters).

pictures again are at http://www.theshire.com/hobbit/art/trip/india2003/

P.S. it is supposed to rain tomorrow, we'll see what it is like.
