--sunset
Resplendent, like fine hued velvet,
was the setting of the sun.
And as the orb sank,
so did our hearts.
Like the punctuation at the end of
a wandering and wonderful sentence,
The red and violet sky ended the day,
and with it our drawn-out good-byes.
Not to see eachother for the stretch of time
that it takes for a miracle to occur,
Or the world to end in a shower
of glowing and dancing embers.
Maybe tomorrow, maybe never.
Only time, the wizened yet
newborn cunnundrum that she is, can tell.
Eyes deliberately closing, i turn my back
on you, *my* sun, the spectrum of unforgiving colors.
Wishing hopelessly for the gracious return
that may or may not be mine to enjoy.
Your closely guarded mind, always knowing
but almost consistently locked
Has retrieved the keys
that it once lent to me.
and now those keys are locking away my sun
in a barrage of camouflaging wonder.
And the sun, slipping, gliding, riding
on a sea of incessant but short-lived splendor,
Only reinforces the idea of a shining homecoming
That will always be only a momentary span
of endless darkness to endure.
